    The Need For Financial Education

Stress at work, or “financial unwellness,” costs companies time, money and productivity,  just like it costs employees as individuals.

There once was a time when the combination of company pension plans, Social Security and personal savings could carry retirees through their golden years. With many corporate pension plans going by the wayside along with growing concerns over the future of Social Security, there is greater emphasis placed on personal savings for employees to help achieve retirement independence today than for employees of decades past.

It can be stressful coping with the daily tasks and challenges of maintaining one’s health, household budget, family and investments. Without the right combination of financial education tools and services, employees may be less productive at work stressing over their personal finances , while attempting to solve financial problems on company time.  This can also lead to absenteeism and delayed retirement.

According to a 2018 Employee Financial Wellness Survey, many workers are concerned about their economic well-being:

-Over 50% of employees don’t have enough emergency savings.
-One-third of workers finds it difficult to meet their monthly household expenses.
-Nearly 50% consistently carry credit card balances.
-Roughly half of all employees find dealing with their financial situation stressful.
-Almost 40% estimate they spend three hours or more thinking about or dealing with personal finances issues at work.
